Loving Lately

I was a teenager when the first 24 hour superstore, Meijer, came to our hometown. It was a marvel, unprecedented and life-changing. You could buy anything, groceries and a poster; a bean bag and a gold fish; a movie and an air popper popcorn maker. And the best part was that it was open all of the time! Maybe a Friday night football game victory lead to a celebratory cheeseburger at the local McDonald’s… And then you remember that you were supposed to grab donuts and juice for your little sister’s slumber party! Gone were the days that your hometown grocery store that closed by 9 (on a late day) was your only lost opportunity. Just drive over to Meijer! You couldn’t miss it, the store was gargantuan and the parking lot was lit.

Kids these days will never know what a world of opportunity that opened up. It didn’t matter if you worked the night shift, you could still stop at the store on your way home from work. And, the rural nocturnal people finally had a destination complete with cafeteria. Be that as it may, it is 2018 now and there is only one name you need to know, Amazon.

From the comfort of my easy chair in my non-judgmental (and quite acceptable) pajama wearing living room, I can order just about anything I want; products even my neighborhood Meijer may not carry, and it will be delivered to my doorstep in about 2 days. (I am certain that within a few years that too will seem archaic, because those little drones (or devices I have yet to imagine) will have it delivered in “30 minutes or less, or it’s free!”) But for now, with a little planning, I’ve got it made.

This week alone, I ordered my middle schooler’s mask and accessories for his Drift costume (whatever that is),

Za’atar and other organic spices not found at my local grocer,

the Cash and Carter Family Cookbook, because obvi,

as well as, ahead-of-my-usual-game Christmas gifts and other miscellaneous items… Because, yeeaaahh! I don’t know why it took me so long to get on board? But currently my Prime floodgates are wide open… and at the moment, I am loving my Amazon.

Loving Lately ?????

It’s time to start the new year off right! So for my first edition of the Sadie’s Nest “Loving Lately” 2017, I’m keeping it real with my current favorite… Door to Door Organics! My sister and brother-in-law surprised me this holiday season with a gift subscription to the on-line grocery store with home delivery. In case you missed that, it’s an on-line grocery store with HOME DELIVERY! (Some of you might have been doing this for years…) I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve already had two deliveries!

I can literally choose any recipe from one of my favorite blogs or cookbooks and just click on the desired ingredients from the comfort of my pajamas, and then up to two times a week a delivery person will bring my order to my front door. The one catch, if you want to call it that, is I have to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables with every order. I chose the “Bitty Mixed Box” (which is plenty). It means that with every delivery I will receive $19.99 worth of organic and local fresh fruits and vegetables. I can let them choose seasonal offerings or I can substitute for selections I think would suit us better. Door to Door Organics has a huge variety of products, most of them local (which I love). I can specify a list of offerings that are all non-GMO (which I also love) and their certified organic selection (hence their name) is terrific! Organic Worcestershire sauce and Kalamata olives? Got it.

If your order adds up to over $75 (not hard to do with a family of 6), delivery is free. Oh, and as if it couldn’t get any better… it does. On your next delivery date just leave out all of the previous boxes and packaging and they will recycle/take-care-of-it for you! I might never have to leave the house again.

Update: Sadly, as of November 2017 doortodoororganics is no longer providing services.

Loving Lately #1: Fabulous Finds; Linens

You never know what you’re going to come across at an antique store or flea market; which is all the excitement! I consider fabulous finds to be great deals on great items. There is actually a thrift store not far from my house with the same name, brilliant! I had the opportunity the other day to find some beautiful linens at fantastic prices. For example, pictured is a hand embroidered harvest themed table cloth. Down the center is corn, artichokes and pumpkins to name a few, with more fruits and veggies in every corner. It’s also extra long to accommodate my dining table, but the best part is it only cost $8.50! I’m a happy girl.

Loving Lately #2: Fabulous Finds; Kitchen Gadgets

Fabulous finds could make a regular appearance on Loving Lately. They are as fun to me as easy appetizers. As much as I appreciate antiques, I’m not looking for decorative gadgets or collector’s items. I love finding utensils that can still be used today; which is why I got really excited to find the pasta cutter for round raviolis and the pie cutter/crimper for my pastries! (Also pictured is another cute linen.) I got both utensil for less than $10. I can’t wait to see what kind of beautiful things come out of my kitchen! Now if I could only justify the pasta attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer…

Loving Lately ❤ Giveaway!

I have been wanting to do a giveaway for a while. Actually before I ever had a blog I was planning the type of things I’d like to giveaway. Now that I have been doing this for a for a little span, I think its time. I just can’t wait any more!! Thankfully my favorite non-familial home cook has put out a really adorable kitchen ware line! Yay! I think it’s befitting that my first giveaway is a piece from her new line, don’t you? I recently visited my local Walmart to check out the new items and basically wanted to take home one of everything. The practical side of me made, um, me limit myself to a few. I have to say my favorite is this beautiful pitcher!
